Kevin, the California King Snake cake

Kevin, the California King Snake is a recently acquired pet belonging to my friend's son, Jacob. So, of course, he wanted a snake cake for his birthday. Check out the scales: I made them by pressing an onion bag into the fondant. Pretty cool. I hope Kevin tastes as good as he looks :).

I just received this email from Amy:
"Hey Freya, The Kevin cake was a huge success! When Jacob came home from school and saw the cake, he was so excited. Everyone loved the cake and it was very tasty too. All the adults commented on how cool it was. They all wanted to know who made it. I was actually sad to cut into it. Jacob wanted the middle chocolate part. All the other kids were fighting over the head."

No, you're not seeing double. A rather resourceful young lady spotted last weekend's cake on my blog and had to have it for herself for her 16th birthday. Happy 16th Birthday Madison!

I just received this email from Madison:

"Okay everybody LOVEDDDD my cake!!! it is the best cake i have ever had! I was bragging about you so much haha. It was delicious. I still have left overs and me and my friends ate some today. Thank you for making it on such short notice, it was great and amazing!!!"

40 & FABULOUS!!!

Ahhh, finally the culmination of a project I've been working on for a while. A friend of a friend is having her 40th birthday party tonight, hence the "sassy cake." This blinged out 2 tier cake is all vanilla bean cake with vanilla bean frosting covered in homemade hot pink marshmallow fondant and black fondant accented with silvery leopard spots and royal icing, topped off with a flashy fondant tiara.
Marble cupcakes complete the 40 theme with black flowers, forties and hot pink leopard print toppers.

KITTY CAT CAKE

I have spent a couple of weeks working on all the little details of this cake for a phenomenal girl who is turning 13 soon. Faith's Mom sent me pictures of her feline friends that mean the world to her. Now, they are immortalized in fondant--of all things--as they whip up a little soiree for their favorite girl. Gotta love those little kitties.
Boo-Boo, the blue Abyssinian, hoists a big gift for her best pal.
Nessie, the ruddy silver Abyssinian, is always getting into mischief and has gotten a head-start on the gift opening.
Shelby is the lazy tabby curled up on Faith's kitty cat tee with a golden noisemaker to get the party started.

COOKIES FOR SANTA!

The kids and I spent an evening experimenting with royal icing and sugar cookies--not my forte--but I figured worth posting all the same. The kids picked out their favorites to leave for Santa on Christmas Eve. Yummy, yummy in his big fat tummy.

MERRY CHRISTMAS--AGAIN!

What a busy day today was! I prepared around 50 cupcakes for the kids' class parties and 2 cakes for the foreign language department at Lassiter High School. All of the cupcakes were red velvet and cream cheese decorated with fondant Christmas decorations. The yummy chocolate cake was a devil's food with whipped chocolate ganache filling and glossy ganache with chocolate shavings.
