HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN, QUINN!

Last year, it was robots, this year it's all about Wild Animals.  Little Quinn celebrated his fourth birthday with a party favor bag-inspired wild animal cake decked out in all of his favorite colors: orange, green and blue.  Underneath was yummy vanilla bean cake with raspberry frosting.  It's all good.  Happy Birthday little buddy!

BAILEY'S BOWLING BIRTHDAY!

I made these bowling cupcake toppers for little Bailey, who turned six this weekend. Bailey's mom requested black icing which was a little tricky, since typically there is so much food coloring in black icing that the tastes icky. In the end, I tried a black chocolate and it was much better than vanilla black, but I digress. I think the glittery toppers really looked cute paired with the bowling balls and pins.

NOTHING SAYS HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIKE DARTH MAUL

My friend, Amy, gave me a call to do a lovely Darth Maul cake to celebrate yet another birthday. This gang loves Star Wars: I like the horns. Happy Birthday!

WILD ABOUT ZEBRA!!!

What a fun cake for a great girl! My neighbor, Holly, had everything picked out top to bottom for her special 16th birthday cake from types of flowers she wanted to the color of the satin ribbon. I definitely learned some new things while making this cake: real flowers are fun to work with and I think I now know how to make a striped cake on the inside--still waiting to find out if it worked. I appreciate the chance to make such a super-cool cake for a super-sweet girl. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOLLY!

HELLO KITTY!

Wow! A year has gone by since I made one of my first posts for Brynn's princess cupcakes. This year, it's all about Hello Kitty. My mom is going to be so jealous! I bought these cutters years ago on ebay with the intention of making actual cookies, but they work so great with fondant. I hope that everyone enjoyed eating these homemade marble cupcakes with vanilla bean frosting as much as I enjoyed making them.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

I often say "I always wanted to make" this cake or that cake, but I actually never thought about making a Sonic cake. I was happy to make this really cool cake for a little boy in one of my Spanish classes at Noonday. His favorite color is blue and he loves this feisty little Hedgehog. Originally, this cake was supposed to be kind of a sheet cake, but I haven't done a super-challenging, cool cake in a while, so I wanted to make something where the end result was awesome. I love the way he turned out with that ultra-intense expression on his face. Thanks so much Yvette for letting me make Nicholas a super, Sonic cake.

ROCKCLIMBING CUPCAKES

I love, love, love these cupcakes! This photo was sent to me by an Etsy customer who ordered my rockclimbing set for her son's birthday. Personally, I think she rocked the cupcakes! So cool! Thanks for the picture DeeDee!

LUAU CAKE AND CUPCAKES

It's one of those years where the my kids with fall and winter birthdays insisted upon another "fake birthday party," so that they could have a pool party. Because I was expecting a huge crowd, I had to make tons of cake and cupcakes. I made 50 red velvet/cream cheese and lemon/lemon cupcakes topped with a variety of tropical toppers. The birthday cake was inspired by the party city napkin's floral theme. It was very yummy marble cake with chocolate frosting. Best of all, it was such an AWESOME party!

ROCK 'N ROLL BABY!!!

I know I always say this, but I was really excited to do this cake. I have never done a black cake and I always wanted to do that diamond pattern on the side so this was my chance. I just kept blinging it out until I couldn't bling anymore. Thanks so much for letting me make a "rocker princess" cake. Happy 8th birthday Carson. I hope you loved it!!!

¡¡¡Feliz cumpleaños Karla!!!

This three-tier quinceañera cake was designed for Karla, a lovely young lady, celebrating her 15th birthday this evening. The cake was such a great match for all of the girls' beautiful dresses and the party's color scheme. The top and bottom tiers are chocolate and chocolate ganache, the middle is vanilla with chocolate buttercream. The cupcakes are marble with coordinating purple and yellow vanilla bean frosting. They were so good!!!

Kevin, the California King Snake cake

Kevin, the California King Snake is a recently acquired pet belonging to my friend's son, Jacob. So, of course, he wanted a snake cake for his birthday. Check out the scales: I made them by pressing an onion bag into the fondant. Pretty cool. I hope Kevin tastes as good as he looks :).

I just received this email from Amy:
"Hey Freya, The Kevin cake was a huge success! When Jacob came home from school and saw the cake, he was so excited. Everyone loved the cake and it was very tasty too. All the adults commented on how cool it was. They all wanted to know who made it. I was actually sad to cut into it. Jacob wanted the middle chocolate part. All the other kids were fighting over the head."

Sweet 16

No, you're not seeing double. A rather resourceful young lady spotted last weekend's cake on my blog and had to have it for herself for her 16th birthday. Happy 16th Birthday Madison!

I just received this email from Madison:

"Okay everybody LOVEDDDD my cake!!! it is the best cake i have ever had! I was bragging about you so much haha. It was delicious. I still have left overs and me and my friends ate some today. Thank you for making it on such short notice, it was great and amazing!!!"

40 & FABULOUS!!!

Ahhh, finally the culmination of a project I've been working on for a while. A friend of a friend is having her 40th birthday party tonight, hence the "sassy cake." This blinged out 2 tier cake is all vanilla bean cake with vanilla bean frosting covered in homemade hot pink marshmallow fondant and black fondant accented with silvery leopard spots and royal icing, topped off with a flashy fondant tiara.
Marble cupcakes complete the 40 theme with black flowers, forties and hot pink leopard print toppers.

KITTY CAT CAKE

I have spent a couple of weeks working on all the little details of this cake for a phenomenal girl who is turning 13 soon. Faith's Mom sent me pictures of her feline friends that mean the world to her. Now, they are immortalized in fondant--of all things--as they whip up a little soiree for their favorite girl. Gotta love those little kitties.
Boo-Boo, the blue Abyssinian, hoists a big gift for her best pal.
Nessie, the ruddy silver Abyssinian, is always getting into mischief and has gotten a head-start on the gift opening.
Shelby is the lazy tabby curled up on Faith's kitty cat tee with a golden noisemaker to get the party started.

PARTY ANIMALS!

Our neighbor, Laura, celebrated her 8th birthday today and requested that her Webkinz make an appearance on her cake as well. The cotton candy bunny, elephant and monkey celebrate atop a candy covered chocolate cake with purple vanilla bean frosting.

WEBKINZ BONANZA!!!

Happy birthday kids! I worked for quite a long time on all the various pieces of this cake which was inspired by my kids' love/obsession with Webkinz. The theme of the cake is a take on the online game Candy Bash Viva Poncho complete with a taco and chile wielding black and white cat decked out in a sombrero and a desert background. The top tier is red velvet and cream cheese and the bottom tier is chocolate with whipped chocolate ganache.

Happy Birthday Audrey!

Nine-year-old Audrey is quite the Harry Potter fan, so she requested a Harry Potter book cake for her birthday. I did have fun working on her Harry Potter themed birthday cake which features the Golden Snitch, Hedwig, Harry's magic wand and scarf.
